It is one of the largest partnering events in Asia, which will be held at Pacifico Yokohama from Wednesday, October 9th (Friday) to, October 11th (Sunday).
This time, Nagaoka University of Technology COI-NEXT ” The Bio community Centre: A NIIGATA Circular Bioeconomy Initiative” will be exhibiting jointly with Akita Prefectural University COI-NEXT “Value Creation Co-Creation Center for the Next Generation by Utilizing Forest Resources Developed through Technology, Education, and Design”.
The name of the booth is [Akita Prefectural University x Nagaoka University of Technology COI-NEXT MORI to TANBO], and the exhibition will be themed around “sustainability”, “resource circulation” and “science” while expressing human activities that continue from the forests to the rice fields in Japan.

LINK-J x Nagaoka Bio Community: Innovative Manufacturing “Key figures in life science and fermentation talk” ~New possibilities using the power of fermentation~
Nagaoka University of Technology will participate as a co-organizer of the LINK-J x Nagaoka Bio Community: Innovative Manufacturing “Key figures in life science and fermentation talk” ~New possibilities using the power of fermentation~, which is also organized by the General Incorporated Association Life Science Innovation Network Japan (LINK-J) (sponsored by Nagaoka City).
When you hear the word “fermentation”, you probably think of alcohol or food. Koji, made from rice grown in rice fields, is the origin of Japan’s fermentation culture. Japan’s fermentation culture is one of the most diverse in the world, and is said to be linked to health and longevity. Efforts are also underway in “biomanufacturing,” which involves creating things using the power of fermentation. A lot of research is needed to clarify the relationship between fermentation, health, and longevity and to promote bio-manufacturing to enrich people’s lives. Nagaoka Bio Community is working to create a research and development center and startup ecosystem with the aim of fusing fermentation and science.
This time, we would like to introduce the activities of Nagaoka in turning Japan’s fermentation culture into science, and we would also like you to experience the fusion of city and region through “fermentation and life science” possibilities.

The September 12th issue of Nature, the top international general science journal, featured an article advertisement on COI-NEXT, a fully resource-recycling biocommunity center in Niigata, a region where rice is grown. The region faces a mountain of serious agricultural issues, such as abnormal weather, increasing fertilizer prices, and a lack of successors. The center aims to revitalize Niigata region, a region where rice is extensively grown, by realizing a fully resource-recycling society by bringing together technologies from various fields through co-creation with people from many industries, mainly farmers, centered around our university.
The featured article published in Nature this time does not only introduce research, but also carefully summarizes social impacts which the center is aiming for and its future envisions, touching on the thoughts of various people. Please take a look.
